The hallmarks of a Wharton Alaska Leadership Venture are exploration, remoteness and tough weather, while developing mountaineering skills.
The weather in the eastern Alaska Range (south central part of the state) is often unpredictable and the terrain challenging. However, these conditions help build resilience and tolerance for adversity and uncertainty- skills relevant beyond your venture.
The Canwell - Gulkana glacier traverse is a 10-day field-based expedition. The objective of this Venture is to summit Icefall Peak (7986 ft) or Snow White Peak (8967 ft) and negotiate a technical pass that separates the Canwell from the Gulkana glaciers at 6200 ft.
The completion of these two activities will test your newly learned mountaineering skills, while you practice self and peer leadership.
This venture offers a mentally and physically intense, multi-day leadership experience to challenge and grow capabilities as you mountaineer through the remote Alaska Range mountain wilderness and will be an experience of a lifetime!
You’ll see much of this wild country as you explore it while learning the most complex mountaineering skills.

"I learned a tremendous amount and am still blown away by how well the course was executed, and received by the participants. And to say the least, I feel extremely lucky to have been a part of this journey."
