Future Global Leaders Expedition

This 20-day leadership development course is specifically designed with the Future Global Leaders (FGL) in mind. In the pristine wilderness of the Wind River Mountains, you will learn and practice real leadership skills that are applicable to the rest of your experience as a Future Global Leader Fellow. Additionally, the significant and sometimes unpredictable components of the natural environment will hone your skills of observation, planning and reflection, adding to your personal leadership style. There will also be substantial opportunity to develop lasting relationships with your peers.

The Wind River Range of Wyoming presents a significant landscape to practice leadership. Much of the terrain has been scraped and scarred by ancient glaciers, creating a steep and rocky topography. Every day you will travel on- or off-trail, through dense forested valleys with abundant wildlife or on open alpine ridges exposing vast views. With the help of our experienced instructors, you will learn to effectively navigate through this environment while developing camp-craft skills for comfortable living.

To be successful on this course, be prepared to exercise resilience, teamwork and courage. In the beginning, you will be given small tasks to learn and master. But as the course goes on, the level of responsibility and challenge increases until you are leading your peers on a daily basis. From cooking on a single burner stove to summiting a 10,000+ foot peak, you and your FGL peers will develop the competence to independently manage the complex nature of wilderness travel. In this way, your NOLS experience builds your confidence in meeting the challenges of your university life and beyond.
