NOLS Receives Torch Award for Business
Ethics
National Outdoor Leadership
School in Lander, Wyo., Is one of seven Colorado and Wyoming
Businesses receiving the Mountain States Better Business Bureau’s
prestigious Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics. The award was
presented at an April 28 dinner at The Marriott Hotel
in Fort Collins, Colo.
Other recipients included WestMark Homes
of Windsor, Colo.; Wells Fargo Greeley and Fort Collins, Colo.,
Odell Brewing Company, Inc., Fort Collins, Colo.; Coal
Creek Coffee Company, Laramie, Wyo.; Thunder Basin Coal Company
near Wright, Wyo; and Eagle Bronze Foundry, Inc., Lander, Wyo.
Doing
the right thing is simply good for business, said Pamela King,
president/CEO of the Mountain States BBB, which covers 42 counties
in northern Colorado and east and central Wyoming. “Businesses honored
this year have had sound ethics in place since the beginning of their respective
companies and today serve as role models on how to be the best you can be.”
The awards, in their seventh year, honor companies that
demonstrate exemplary management practices, uphold high standards in relationships
with customers, suppliers and share holders, and show honesty and integrity
in marketing and advertising.
National Outdoor Leadership School
Non-Profit
The National Outdoor Leadership School, founded in 1965
by legendary mountaineer Peter Petzoldt, annually offers courses worldwide
to 10,000 students on five continents. The school teaches people
how to lead along with acquiring outdoor skills. Courses offered
include rock climbing, sea kayaking, canoeing, white-water rafting,
skiing, caving and horse packing.
NOLS has 600 contract instructors, 400 based out of
Lander. The school is a founding partner of the national Leave No trace program.
In the last five years, it has committed to remaining in Lander and moved
into a new $5 million administration building.
