LANDER, Wyo.--On Sunday July 18, Outside Magazine and the Outdoor
Life Network (OLN) highlighted the National Outdoor Leadership
School (NOLS) as the nation’s #1 adventure camp. The
program, “Outside Magazine’s Ultimate Top 10 Adventure
Camps,” was created as a follow-up to the magazine’s
April 2004 article entitled “The Thrill of the Skill,” which
recognized NOLS Wind
River Wilderness courses and applauded the
school’s Leave No Trace ethics.
NOLS was listed above other schools and adventure camps based
on its high standards in leadership training and outdoor education. “NOLS
is the perfect antidote for the fast food, SUV, cell phone,
remote control nation,” says Outside Magazine’s Photography
Editor Rob Haggart.
“Outside Magazine is a leading publication for the outdoor
industry. NOLS is honored that Outside has recognized us
as number one in wilderness skills education. This is great tribute
to our staff and strong recognition of our highly accomplished
graduates,” says NOLS Executive Director John Gans.
A private non-profit school founded in 1965, NOLS operates wilderness
field expeditions on four continents and boasts over 75,000 alumni
worldwide. The school runs 10-day to semester-length courses
for people aged 14 to over 70 in the Rocky Mountains, Pacific
Northwest, Southwest, Alaska, Western Canada, Mexico, Patagonia
(Chile), India, Australia, and New Zealand. College credit and
scholarships are available.
