NOLS Announces New Hires
July 11, 2002
The National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) announces
the arrival of two new employees who have filled top management
positions at the school. Deborah Johnson has stepped in
as Operations Director, overseeing NOLS' five locations
in the United States as well as in Canada, Chile, Mexico,
, Australia and India. Dave Glenn, from Lander,
Wyo., is the new NOLS Rocky Mountain Director in charge
of the school's programs and facilities based out of Lander.
Both employees bring to the school a strong background
working in education in the profit and nonprofit sectors.
Johnson, who has lived in the Boston, Mass., area for several
years, comes to NOLS most recently from an internet company
specializing in marketing international student travel.
With a master's in business administration from the College
of William and Mary, she has also served as Executive Vice
President for a domestic student travel corporation, as
well as Vice President for EF Educational Tours, the worlds
largest educational travel institute. Her expertise in managing
both international and domestic educational programs, combined
with a background in operations, human resources and marketing,
will be essential as she works with NOLS staff and students
around the world.
Dave Glenn returns to NOLS after two years working at the
Brunton Co. For more than eight years, Glenn served the
school in numerous capacities, including as an instructor,
admission officer and alumni relations manager. Prior to
his career at NOLS, Glenn was the University of Utah's outdoor
recreation program director. In his new role, he will oversee
the 1,100 students and 90 total field courses that are based
out of NOLS' Rocky Mountain facility each year. In addition,
Glenn will manage the facilities' 52 in-town support staff,
who work with everything from route planning to issuing
equipment and rations, and the more than 250 instructors
who come each year to teach the NOLS curriculum in leadership
and outdoor skills. "I'm excited to be taking on the
challenge of NOLS Rocky Mountain branch director," says
Glenn. "Right here in Lander our staff are some of
the highest qualified, most experienced outdoor professionals
in the world
something we all should be proud of."
