Leave No Trace at NOLS
Leave No Trace is an integral part of the environmental
studies curriculum on every NOLS course Students have the opportunity
to learn, practice and teach Leave No Trace camping and traveling skills
in a variety of environments, and develop a lifelong wildland ethic.
As the primary educational partner of the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics, NOLS continues to be involved in a variety of eduational initiatives. The curriculum for the Master Educator and Trainer course, originally written by NOLS is being revised and updated to include thelatest research and teaching techniques. NOLS is also the primary author of the Leave No Trace Skills and Ethics booklets, a series of publicatons that focus on Leave No Trace principles and techniques for specific areas or activities. The Skills and Ethics booklet series is organized in regions that cover all of North America.
In 2002, NOLS was honored by the Natural Resources Council of America with the
Award of Achievement for Excellence in Environmental Education. Each year the
council recognizes organizations and individuals who are the "driving forces for conservation success".
NOLS was recognized for its role in the creation of the national Leave No Trace
program.
