Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I pay for my NOLS course with a credit card?
A: Yes! We accept Visa and MasterCard, and we can take your credit card information over the phone.
Q: Should I bring extra money to pay for equipment rentals and purchases for my course?
A: No need! The balance due prior to the course includes an equipment deposit. This amount goes towards rentals and purchase fees. After your course, we will reconcile your account. If you exceed the equipment deposit, we will bill you and if you under-spent it, you will be reimbursed.
Q: Do I need to let someone know ahead of time which equipment I plan to rent and purchase?
A: Any items listed as available to rent or purchase on your Equipment List will be available when you arrive. You will spend a chunk of the first day of your course issuing equipment and going through your outfitting needs with the guidance of your instructors and the Issue Room staff. If you have a shoe or clothing size that is very large or small, you may want to check in on availability prior to your course.
Q: When should I make travel arrangements for my course?
A: We strongly recommend that you wait until your Health Form and other Enrollment forms are cleared before you make any non-refundable travel arrangements. The dates and specifics of the travel related to your course are explained in detail in your Travel & Logistics document. All courses begin early on the start date of the course, requiring you to arrive the day before. Courses end late in the day on the end date of your course, allowing you to depart the day after your course ends.
Q: Can I leave items at the Branch during the course?
A: Yes you may! There is a locker for you to leave a duffel or suitcase with gear and a change of clothes for after your course. Valuables (wallet, cell phone, etc) can be stored in a more secure location.
Q: Can I receive mail during my course?
A: We do deliver mail to students in between sections on some semester courses. On all other courses, you will not receive mail on re-rations. You can receive it on the end date of your course, so feel free to give out the address to friends and family!
Q: Who should I call if there is an emergency during the course?
A: Refer to your Travel & Logistics document for the phone number of the NOLS Branch out of which your course is based. You can also always call NOLS Admissions at 800-710-6657 to convey any messages or to obtain the Branch’s contact information.
Q: Do you recommend that I purchase the Tuition Protection Plan?
A: While it is entirely optional, we do recommend this plan, as it provides coverage for your tuition in case of an injury or illness prior to or during your course. It also provides up to $100,000 of emergency medical transportation. See the Tuition Protection Plan brochure in your Enrollment Packet for further details.
Q: I have misplaced my Enrollment Packet. Where can I find new course information and forms?
A: Go to www.nols.edu/enrolled. Contact the Admissions Office at 800-710-6657 to obtain a copy of your Travel & Logistics document.
