What We're Doing at
NOLS Patagonia
Recycling
- We encourage renew, reuse, and recycle ethics among all our staff and students, and put those ethics to practice throughout our operations.
- All food scraps are composted.
Being Organic
- Green houses provide students and staff with organic garden goods.
- We raise cage free chickens at the Campo.
Minimizing Impact
- We practice low impact ranching at the Campo.
- The existing native forest on our property is being preserved.
Efficiency
- A Geo-Thermal Heat Exchange pump is being used to heat the building that is soon to house our administrative offices. This system will reduce our propane consumption and carbon emissions by approximately 75 percent.
Goals
- Use hydroelectric and/or a wind turbine to feed energy back into the grid and decrease the electric bill considerably. (Electricity in Coyhaique is considered to be the most expensive in the world.)
- Install solar panels for exterior lighting of buildings and walkways.
