Snowboarding

Our snowboarding course begins with learning basic skills needed for comfortable winter travel in the backcountry — everything from lighting stoves and lanterns to cold injury prevention and avalanche education. After a day of snowboarding instruction at Grand Targhee Resort, you’ll head out into the backcountry of the Snake River Range. For 10 days, you’ll camp, travel and play in the winter backcountry.

Living in the winter is hard work and days are long, but you’ll quickly learn that you can be comfortable and happy outside in temperatures well below freezing. You’ll melt snow for water, prepare meals, improve your snowboarding skills and learn to construct elaborate snow shelters.

Teamwork and positive energy will be important to the entire group’s comfort and morale while you are in the backcountry. And for your hard work… a perfect ride in untracked powder.

“People talk about wild areas all the time, but Alaska has a wildness and beauty unlike anywhere else. When our group finally made it to a summit, we just went wild. I’ll never forget that feeling of being on a mountain where hardly anyone else has ever been.”
