Bonnet Plume River
You’ll learn basic mountain paddling skills—from loading, to strokes, reading the river, ferries, bracing, eddy turns, scouting, portages and lining.

Do you know how to eddy turn? How about peeling out and ferrying—front and back? This 32-day course will show you why the Yukon is the premiere destination in the world for whitewater expeditionary canoe trips. You'll travel on a wild, remote, clean and technically challenging river as you learn the appropriate skills to make it an extraordinary adventure. Rediscover this lost art and redefine any canoeing you may have done in the past, as you open your eyes to a whole new world of river travel and boat control.

You'll develop powerful, efficient strokes and become skilled in both bow and stern paddling technique, which you'll learn with a partner as you build your leadership and communication skills. You'll see how the canoe is the softest way to travel in the wilderness and learn how to leave a minimal impact on the shore. By the time you reach your destination, you'll have the technical and backcountry skills to execute multi-day wilderness canoe trips in remote settings and lead others there.

“There is a special learning that takes place in wilderness areas such as the Yukon. Such learning is not a part of a traditionally structured, academic classroom. It can only be found in the outdoors, in the wilderness beyond the rigid structure of academics.”
