30 Day Yukon Backpacking and Wilderness Canoeing

Bonnet Plume River

Adventures await around every corner in the Yukon Territory, home to some of the world's most remote mountains and rivers.

Take full advantage of the remote, pristine Yukon wilderness and travel abroad without leaving the continent. This course is perfect for students wanting to develop two distinct skills, hiking and canoeing, be out for a month without resupply, and be on less technical rivers.

With the diverse, captivating terrain, you’ll be able to focus on developing the skills to lead your peers in small groups. This course will enable you to pack all of your supplies for a month into a canoe. Your route offers true expedition river and lake travel with weeklong backpacking loops that provide incredible views to the rugged mountains and glaciers. You may even catch a glimpse of bear or caribou.

If you like to fish, you’ll love the world-class fly fishing up here. In fact, this course has great fishing of all types. With the adventurous routes and a combination of skills, you’ll come home an excellent camper and leader with an unparalleled appreciation for Canada’s history and environment.

“There is a special learning that takes place in wilderness areas such as the Yukon. Such learning is not a part of a traditionally structured, academic classroom. It can only be found in the outdoors, in the wilderness beyond the rigid structure of academics.”
