Idaho Backpacking Adventure

IIndependence, responsibility, achievement and fun…these qualities and more are the essence of this course. In a word: adventure. You’ll explore country you’ve only dreamed about.

Whether you travel the Wyoming Range, the Snake River Range, the Beaverheads, the Beartooths or the Absarokas, the mountains will be unlike any classroom you’ve ever experienced with their fresh air and fresh opportunities.

You’ll learn skills — backpacking, cooking, camping and navigation with a map — but you’ll also learn things like how to turn challenging situations into opportunities, how to get along with your group, or how to be a leader even when you’re following.

This course will give you the tools you’ll need for a life of adventure in the classroom or the wilderness. Adventure courses are not a kid’s version of other NOLS courses.

You’ll get the famous NOLS curriculum taught by the same high quality instructors who teach for NOLS in places like Patagonia and Alaska. And, as with every NOLS course, these are field-based experiences where you’ll travel the country on foot and sleep under a blanket of stars.

"I love teaching wilderness courses because of the age group and because the students can take personal responsibility. What we impart to the students in those terms can really be applied to their lives, how to take responsibility for one's actions and how those actions affect others. We show them how they can transfer skills to the front country. During the course, they just get totally jazzed about the skills that they are learning."
