This 30-day exploratory backpacking course will take you north into the remote regions of Arctic Norway and Sweden.
You will go where no NOLS student has gone before. With the expert guidance of your instructors, you’ll learn to travel and camp in areas such as Tromsø, Finnmark, or Lyngen.
Inhabited since the end of the ice age, the region’s indigenous culture is the Sami, with more modern Scandinavian roots reaching back to the migrations of the Vikings during the late 800s. All the while you’re immersed in this unique place rich in culture and wilderness, you will also be immersed in the NOLS core curriculum—honing your leadership skills, backcountry cooking savvy, and Leave No Trace ethics.
Due to current economic conditions, NOLS is not offering Scandinavian Backpacking in 2009. There are many other summer courses available here. |
