Outdoor professionals with extensive river experience will find this Professional River Instructor Course to be an ideal introduction to NOLS. Whether your background is in guiding or river-based outdoor education, this course is designed to put you on the fast track to working river courses with NOLS. You’ll be traveling through Utah’s canyon country for 16 days in kayaks, oar rigs, and paddle rafts as your instructors teach the particulars of the NOLS raft/kayak program. You and your peers will be responsible for teaching various basic and advanced classes as well. This structure offers the perfect opportunity to learn new techniques from fellow educators.
The course will cover topics like hazard evaluation, communication skills, and natural history while evaluating your skills on the river. It’s our goal that you finish this course ready to take a group of novice students down a river safely and responsibly.
