courses, is a light, maneuverable craft that can explore

Imagine a land of stark contrasts: ocean and desert, cactus and pine, teeming seas and sparse shores. This is the Baja Peninsula, a land of unique wilderness opportunity.
NOLS Mexico is the home of our ocean-based program, and here you’ll learn how to sea kayak, sail, and backpack. You’ll learn about the rich diversity of this marine ecosystem, about the whales and sea birds and fish that call Baja home. There will also be occasion to interact with the people of Baja, to practice your Spanish with everyone from fishermen to ranchers to local university students affiliated with NOLS.
The center of our operation is the unique off-the-grid headquarters in Coyote Bay near Mulegé. We have been here for over 30 years, and our high-tech, low-impact facility was specifically designed to meet the needs of our students.
A strong member of the peninsula’s community, we provide educational opportunities for local educators, students, and land managers, as well as financial aid and scholarships for NOLS courses in both Spanish and English. We have a long-standing partnership with the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California Sur (UABCS), collaborating with their departments of marine biology, geology, and alternative tourism.
At NOLS Mexico you will learn to travel competently and responsibly in the backcountry while having meaningful interactions with a wide cross-section of local residents. You’ll be amazed at the diversity of this land, its flora and fauna, the skills you’ll learn, and the people you’ll meet.
