John “JB” Birch, Assistant

JB, the NOLS
Southwest Assistant Director, lives in Tucson with his wife Sandy and son James. Prior to NOLS Southwest, JB served as the NOLS Salmon Base
Program Supervisor in Idaho. A stellar boater, JB loves “surfing
big green glassy river waves in my kayak.” As a NOLS river instructor on
the Rio Grand alone, JB has led students on over 1000 miles of river travel. When
he’s not ensuring that operations are running smoothly for NOLS Southwest
courses, JB enjoys recreational welding, training for races, working with printers
and computers, and spending time with la familia.
