Since 1965, the value of wilderness as a reality-based classroom has become widely accepted, and outdoor education is a recognized field. NOLS has grown from a little, funky outdoor school operating in one mountain range, to a world-wide, highly-regarded leader in an industry that is still growing.
Today, hundreds of programs across the country are taking people out in the wilderness-many run by people who got their early training at NOLS. Recognizing its role as the "teacher of the teachers," NOLS offered its first course specifically for outdoor educators three decades ago.
Now you can choose from a variety of courses for educators. It all depends on your interest: skiing, sailing, climbing, kayaking . . . the choices are wide open.
More classes and a focus on teaching make Outdoor Educator courses the perfect choice for aspiring or practicing educators.

Outdoor Educator courses are an excellent place to pick up new teaching tips and techniques. Here, Kevin Giardino teaches a raptor identification class on a Southwest course.
