How to Apply for a NOLS Scholarship

All candidates must submit:

1. The NOLS admission application and $65 application fee.
2. The scholarship application (pdf).

When to Apply for a Scholarship

All scholarship applications are reviewed upon receipt. While there is no specific application deadline, NOLS scholarship funds are limited and are awarded on a first come, first served basis. Please apply as soon as possible.

Applications will be reviewed within two days of receipt of the completed application. When a decision has been made, a notification letter will be mailed from our Admissions Office. In addition, all applicants will be notified by telephone or email as soon as possible.

Yukon Foundation Scholarships
Who's eligible: Canadian Citizens
The Donner Canadian Foundation provides funding for NOLS scholarships for Canadian citizens. Those interested and eligible should contact our Canadian location at NOLS_Yukon@nols.edu
National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS)
Who's eligible: NSHSS members
NSHSS and NOLS have joined forces to encourage members of NSHSS to pursue leadership development. NSHSS members receive an automatic $150 partial scholarship for NOLS summer courses as well as a program application fee waiver. Additionally there are two full tuition scholarships that are available just for NSHSS members. Becoming a member is by nomination only for high school juniors and seniors with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Morehead-Cain Foundation
Who's eligible: Morehead Scholars
Morehead Scholars can participate in a NOLS Course as part of their Summer Enrichment Program.

NOLS-NSW Scholarship (Naval Special Warfare Foundation)
Who's eligible: Dependents of NSW personnel
The NOLS-NSW Scholarship grants $3,000 in tuition assistance towards any course offered by NOLS. In order to be eligible, applicants must be between the ages of 14 and 24 years old (different courses are available for different age groups) and must attend their NOLS course within 18 months of the date of their notification of selection.

Chicago Public Schools- Summer Quest
Who's eligible: Summer Quest participants
Summer Quest is a unique program that connects Chicago Public School students in Grades 9-11 to pre-established summer educational or leadership programs around the country.

Matt's Climb Scholarship from the Community Foundation of Santa Cruz County
Who's eligible: Santa Cruz County high school students
Available to high school sophomores and juniors in Santa Cruz County based on financial need. Award to be used toward tuition costs to attend a 14-30 day NOLS course.

TEAK Fellowship
Who's eligible: TEAK Fellows in New York City
TEAK is a program that helps economically disadvantaged, but intellectually talented, New York City students gain access to and succeed at top public, parochial, and independent high schools. The Fellowship provides these young people with equal opportunities for safe and fun places they can call their own through after-school, weekend, and summer programs including sending them on a NOLS course. Fellowships are awarded through nomination from guidance counselors, principals or teachers.

University of Utah Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism - PRT Faculty & Staff Scholarship
Who's eligible: Parks, Recreation and Tourism majors at the University of Utah
This is a combined scholarship towards a NOLS course made possible through contributions of the faculty and staff of the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism (PRT) and through a fund set aside by NOLS. Both schools intend the scholarship to assist promising students working toward degrees in Parks, Recreation and Tourism at the University of Utah. This scholarship recognizes talented students who will use a NOLS course to enhance their academic experience and contribute toward their career goals.

The Alpine Fund Wilderness Leadership Scholarship
Who's eligible: Female with a valid international Kyrgyz Passport
The Alpine Fund is a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization providing education and mountain adventures to at-risk youth in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan since 2000.
