Paige Chambers

Paige Chambers

Position at NOLS: NOLS Bus Marketing Representative
NOLS Courses: North Cascades Mountaineering, Wilderness First Responder

It’s no coincidence that crew members aboard the NOLS bus tend toward an adventurous, and sometimes nomadic state of mind. For Paige Chambers, the newest addition to the crew, the NOLS bus couldn’t fit more perfectly.

“My home is the outdoors,” she says. “I knew I wanted to do field work until my knees wore out.” Although this urban expedition may not find her sleeping under the stars or summitting peaks regularly, the adventure is entirely in line with Paige’s previous experiences.

Paige earned her degree in outdoor education from Texas A&M and had her first introduction to NOLS when taking her Wilderness First Responder through the Wilderness Medicine Institute. She soon followed that with a Northern Cascades Mountaineering course. These courses led her to pursue a career with NOLS, and she recently became a field instructor for the school. It’s a line of work that balances well with her other interests, such as knitting and travel.

Although she is excited about the travel opportunities she’ll have on board, working on the NOLS bus is more than just a fun road trip for Paige. “I want to spread NOLS’ ethics,” she says.

While on the bus, Paige also plans on overcoming car sickness, keeping in shape by using the emergency hatch as a pull-up station, and wearing flip-flops well on through the cold season. “I hate it when people tell me to stop wearing flip-flops in the winter!” she says.

This bare-footed nomad seeks adventure wherever she goes. After the NOLS bus, Paige hopes to travel to South America and, for something completely different, potentially stay in one place for three months.
