"A solid, concise, and readable treatise." --Backpacker

This updated edition of the popular NOLS Wilderness Mountaineering reflects the most current practices, equipment, and risk management in mountain climbing. With a new essay on transitioning from climbing gyms to real rock and all new rescue system illustrations for both glacier and rock settings, this instruction manual is a thorough introduction to the basics of wilderness mountaineering and the core mountaineering curriculum at NOLS. The third edition is the ideal resource for what it takes to climb and travel in the mountains.

NOLS books are printed using responsible environmental practices by FSC-certified book manufacturers. The Forest Stewardship Council encourages the responsible management of the world's forests.
