Join a small group of NOLS grads and Tanzanian Park Service staff on an attempt to summit Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro! With the help of the Tanzania National Parks, we’ve created a special climb of Kilimanjaro — no porters, few people, off-trail travel, and an immersive cultural experience. This 14-day expedition allows time to climb and explore the tallest peak in Africa, one of the Seven Summits of the World.

You'll wokr hard ascending through varied terrain.

On this course you will camp and travel with Tanzanian Park personnel interested in learning NOLS skills and the expectations of Western outdoor adventurers. You will begin your climb while traveling through wet tropical forest and work your way up through various climatic zones to the summit of Kilimajaro which is covered in glacial ice.

From tropical forest, to scree, to glacial ice, you'll experience it all!

You and your group will learn to live in this unique equatorial alpine environment while learning about the geology, glaciology, and unusual flora and fauna of Mt. Kilimanjaro. While in the forests, you may even see Cape buffalo, elephants, bushbuck, and monkeys as well!

Among the unparalled cultural immersion of this trip, the course will also feature NOLS’ Outdoor Educator curriculum that focuses on leadership, backcountry skills, and Leave No Trace techniques.
