In 2002 the Clark County
Conservation of Public Land and Natural Resources
Act added close to a half million acres of Nevada
wilderness to the National Wilderness Preservation
System. That same year the Big Sur Wilderness Act
added 60,000 acres of Californian Wilderness.
Currently,
the 108th congress is considering new bills with
significant impact, such as:
- The Alaska Rainforest
Conservation Act, which would permanently safeguard
the remaining important wild lands of the Tongass
and Chugach National Forests to provide for hunting,
fishing, recreation, tourism, and traditional
subsistence activities.
- America’s Red Rock
Wilderness Act, which is a bill designating wilderness
areas on 9.3 million acres of Utah BLM lands which
were identified by the Utah Wilderness Coalition
inventory as having wilderness qualities.
