Annual Fund FAQ

The NOLS Annual Fund fuels our mission. Your gift to the NAF helps ensure that the momentum that Paul Petzoldt started over 40 years ago continues for future generations.

How are NAF funds used?

• SCHOLARSHIPS: The majority of NAF funds go toward partial and full scholarships that help more than 600 students attend a NOLS course each year.
• OUTREACH: The NAF supports outreach programs at our international branches that train local managers, establish environmental policies and create educational programs.
• RESEARCH & CURRICULUM: The NAF funds many of the school’s research and curriculum developments that ensure quality education for our students.

Why should I give?
To support pristine wilderness and unique, wilderness and leadership education.

Why does NOLS have an Annual Fund?
NOLS is a nonprofit educational organization and the NAF allows us to be sustainable.

Who gives? And how much?
We receive donations from alumni, parents, staff and friends of the school who value who we are and what we do. Donation amounts vary depending on the capacity of the donor, but last year 78% of donations to the NAF were equal to or less than $100.
