NOLS Southwest Intern

Dates of next internship: September though December or January through May.

Application Deadline: Ongoing

Position Location: NOLS Southwest, Tucson, Arizona

Position Length: Approximately 4 1/2 months

Compensation: A stipend of $100/week is provided, plus meals with students while they are in town. Primitive housing will also be provided.

Job Description

Regular Projects: The intern rotates through various aspects of our programs and operations. The NOLS Southwest internship is a practical experience. Examples of support staff skills that can be learned and developed through hands-on experience working with various members of our in-town support staff included:

   * Updating the NOLS SW blog on a weekly basis

   * Managing NOLS SW’s flickr site

   * Updating NOLS SW’s intra-net website

   * Calling enrolled semester students

   * Creating curriculum fact sheets

   * Maintaining and repairing outdoor equipment

   * Planning and packaging rations for field courses

   * Doing basic vehicle checks and troubleshooting

   * Assisting in updates of off-trail guides and map inventories

   * General grounds and branch maintenance

   * Purchasing food and materials

   * Tracking expenses through receipts

   * Maintaining a healthy and productive household for all who work here, and creating a welcoming atmosphere for our students.

   * Organizing office files

 

Preferred Skills:

   * NOLS graduate.

   * Applicants must have a clean driving record and be over 21 years of age.

   * High level of initiative, attention to detail, flexibility, self-motivation, sense of humor and tolerance.

   * Interns must have private health insurance. Our workers compensation will not cover work-related injuries for interns.
