NOLS Patagonia Internships

Compensation: $50 per week. All lodging and food staples provided.

Patagonia Agricultural Intern
Job Description:

The Patagonia Agricultural Intern works under the Patagonia Facilities and Campo Supervisor. The Patagonia Agricultural Intern will work with vegetable production and care of NOLS Patagonia's sheep and cattle herds. The Agricultural Intern will also work on property maintenance and sustainability projects.

Position Length: 6 months

Regular Projects:

  • Work in the green house and garden to grow vegetables for the cookhouse (Quincho) throughout the season.
  • Landscaping projects on the branch property.
  • Work with animal (sheep, cattle, horses and chickens).
  • Work and create an efficient system with farm compost ideas.
  • Outreach projects – making contacts with local farmers in order to expand our self-production of organic products from NOLS farm.
  • Work with farm manager to increase NOLS sustainability and farm productivity
  • Driving tractor, splitting firewood, feeding cattle and chickens.
  • Ability in problem solving with farm project in general.
  • Support other departments during high season such as kitchen and equipment.

Preferred Skills:

  • Spanish language skills necessary as supervisor speaks Spanish only.
  • NOLS grad.
  • Practical skills in any of the above project areas would be important in order to bring new ideas for the farm manager.
  • Experience of living in remote areas and interact with a intercultural community.
  • Tolerant for cross-cultural in the work environment and open to work and learn in an different language.

Additional Comments: Applicants need to be self-motivated and capable of working with minimal task supervision. They should have a specific skill or interest in one of the above areas that they think could benefit the branch. Applicants without Spanish language skills are not encouraged to apply.


Patagonia Rations Intern
Job Description:

The Patagonia Rations Intern works with the Patagonia Rations and Kitchen Manager. The Patagonia Rations Intern will help rations manager supervise students bagging course rations. The Patagonia Rations intern will also assist in kitchen staff with meal preparation for courses and intown staff. On occasion the Patagonia Rations Assistant will travel to remote "rendezvous" when courses meet in the field and switch from one section to assist with organizing rations and intown food.

Position Length: 5 months

Regular Projects:

  • Assist Rations manager in local food purchasing food for course rations and intown kitchen meals.
  • Purchase food for NOLS Patagonia in Coyhaique.
  • Work with NOLS Patagonia cooks to prepare nutritious meals for Patagonia students and staff.
  • Innovate efficient systems for sorting and managing organic waste.
  • Ability in problem solving with farm project in general.
  • Support other departments during high season such as kitchen and equipment.

Patagonia Equipment Intern
Job Description: 

The Patagonia Equipment Intern works with the Patagonia equipment team to ensure high-quality outfitting for NOLS Pataognia courses. The Patagonia Equipment Intern will assist with course issue process and ongoing equipment repair and inventory tasks.

Position Length: Spring Internship 5 months, Summer Internship 4 months

Regular Projects:

  • Assist equipment team in pulling and checking group gear for instructors.
  • Assist equipment team in student equipment issue process.
  • Assist kayak instructor in kayak repair.
  • Assist equipment manager in data management and developing information systems for tracking equipment use to inform equipment ordering and equitable gear distribution.

Preferred Skills:

  • Spanish language skills helpful.
  • NOLS Patagonia grad who understands course Rendezvous process.
  • Practical skills in any of the above project areas would be important in order to bring new ideas for the equipment manager.
  • Experience of living in remote areas and interact with a cross-cultural community.
  • Tolerant for cross-cultural in the work environment and open to work and learn in an different language.
