JOB TITLE: NOLS Teton Valley Facilities and Transportation Coordinator/Driver
REPORTS TO: NOLS Teton Valley Operations Manager
DATES OF POSITION: Mid May through September 9th with priority given to multiple season commitment.
JOB OBJECTIVE: Oversees the maintenance of the physical plant. Performs maintenance and repair of the buildings. Safely drives courses to and from the field; coordinates vehicle maintenance and cleaning; performs light vehicle maintenance and repair. Participates as a member of the NOLS Teton Valley team, helping out where needed to insure smooth operation of NOLS Teton Valley.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1) Excellent driving record
2) Defensive driving
3) Trailer experience
4) Basic understanding of vehicles and their maintenance
5) Basic knowledge of carpentry and home improvement, including ability to safely operate power tools
6) CDL – will train
7) The ability to work unsupervised, supervise others, and remain adaptive is essential
8) Organizational ability, high degree of motivation, initiative, problem solving are critical
9) Desire to work and live in a small community
10) NOLS instructor or graduate preferred
LEADERSHIP OR SUPERVISORY DUTIES: This person will periodically supervise NOLS Teton Valley employees and student volunteers for specific projects. This person will supervise all drivers for NOLS Teton Valley in appropriate driving habits and techniques, possibly training others in defensive driving.
FUNDS AND/OR PROPERTY:
Responsible for fleet of eight vehicles and facility; use of NOLS credit cards and petty cash.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
30% Plant and Vehicle Maintenance
- Manage fleet, track budget, record service and maintenance.
- Orient and train new drivers. Schedule vehicle use in coordination with program team.
- Periodic heavy lifting, including among other things: tires, tire chains, vehicle seats; ration boxes and duffels (25-125 lbs.), fuel cases (36 lbs.), and backpacks (50-100 lbs.).
- Maintain physical plant, and perform maintenance and repairs on buildings and landscape.
60% Driving and logistical support
- Drive fleet trucks, vans and trailers throughout Teton Valley operating areas. Drive courses to roadheads, drive re-rations, and share evacuation driver duty. In some cases, these runs involve 10-hour days behind the wheel and a 15-hour day cumulative. Bad weather or extenuating circumstances occasionally result in unplanned overnight stays.

- Help out where needed most in supporting field courses.
- Projects as assigned by the operations manager
CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK: A criminal background check is required from all NOLS employees.

MOTOR VEHICLE CHECK: Applicants must be at least 21 years of age by the position start date and possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving history.
WORK LOCATION: NOLS Teton Valley, located in Driggs, Idaho, at the foot of the western side of the Teton Range (40 minutes from Jackson Hole, WY). Limited dormitory style housing (in yurts) is offered for this position, but staff members are not required to live on property. The kitchen manager is given priority for housing due to early morning work.
