JOB TITLE: NOLS Teton Valley Equipment Manager
REPORTS TO: NOLS Teton Valley Assistant Director
JOB OBJECTIVE: Manage equipment inventories (backpack, telemark, snowboard, alpine touring) and
ensure adequate supply, quality and selection of equipment for year-round field operations. Work with
program team on meeting student and staff equipment needs. Manage issue and de-issue of equipment, and
subsequent accounting for all rental charges and purchases. Help transport students to course areas.
QUALIFICATIONS: A pleasant and approachable manner with staff and students as well as a high degree
of motivation, initiative, and strong organizational skills are required. Effective communication skills, creative
problem solving and the ability to work well as part of a team to ensure the smooth running of the branch
are necessary. Must be willing and able to work long hours on a flexible schedule.
Must possess a thorough
knowledge of outdoor recreation equipment use and its repair. Basic competence with Macintosh computers,
Excel spreadsheets and Word processing preferred. Experience driving in a variety of conditions is required.
Defensive driving training is preferred. NOLS faculty with field experience at patrol leader level preferred.
Thorough understanding of NOLS philosophy and course mission is vital.
LEADERSHIP OR SUPERVISORY DUTIES: Supervise operations assistant. Supervise and instruct staff and
students in selection, maintenance and use of course equipment.
FUNDS AND/OR PROPERTY: Inventory of course and rental equipment within a budget of $70,000.
Inventory of merchandise within a budget of $30,000. Manage accounting of all student and staff charges.
Maintain safe, clean effective issue room.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Participate fully as an invested member of the NOLS Teton Valley team.
60% Organize and oversee smooth operation of Teton Valley outfitting facility.
- Maintain, clean and repair course equipment. Contract with external sources as needed. Maintain
repair tools and work area in a clean, safe, efficient manner. Provide training and supervision for
equipment staff and faculty in equipment maintenance, inspection, and repair.
- Inventory and keep accurate records of outfitting equipment and supplies. Compile and track
orders; maintain inventory within budget. Advise director on long-term planning.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment sales and rental charges.
- Maintain all outfitting related course paperwork.
- Brief and debrief faculty on equipment availability, function and needs.
- Manage effective issue and de-issue process.
- Plan for and promote sales of merchandise and used course equipment.
30% Share in course transportation. Perform light maintenance on NOLS vehicles and inspect for
safe operational status. Share in evacuation driver duties.
10% Work in coordination with the team on projects to maintain facility and programs.
CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK: A criminal background check is required from all NOLS employees.

MOTOR VEHICLE CHECK: Applicants must be at least 21 years of age by the position start date and
possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving history.
WORK LOCATION: NOLS Teton Valley, located in Driggs, Idaho, at the foot of the western side of the Teton
Range (40 minutes from Jackson Hole, WY). Limited dormitory style housing is available on a priority basis,
but staff members are not required to live on-property.
