JOB TITLE: Senior Graphic Designer
REPORTS TO: Creative Director
JOB OBJECTIVE:
As a member of our in-house creative team, the senior graphic designer is responsible for taking graphics projects from conception to production.
This process includes, but is not limited to, working with the creative team to help internal departments ascertain their design communication needs and objectives; determining the best means to meet those needs and offering multiple conceptual design solutions; designing a piece that meets project objectives; overseeing the draft review process on assigned projects; creating high quality, production-ready files; and working with the printer to ensure a successful finished product.
Candidate must be able to collaborate and communicate with a team but execute projects independently. Must be able to respond to demands from a number of people and know how to prioritize. In addition to being responsible for establishing company graphic standards and branding policies, the senior graphic designer is expected to work within and enforce these standards, taking accountability for accuracy and consistency.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates ideally have a degree in graphic design or related field, 3-5 years of professional experience, strong understanding of the NOLS mission and culture, advanced expertise in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop, and experience creating high-quality print-ready files.
Familiarity with Adobe Lightroom is preferred. Comprehensive knowledge of typography, color management, and photo editing is also necessary to be successful in this role. A solid writing background and basic editing skills is desired. Interest in outdoor education and environmental ethics is a plus.
LEADERSHIP OR SUPERVISARY DUTIES:
Supervise and mentor the graphic designer and design intern.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- 50% Graphic design
- 10% Prepress production and working with printer vendors
- 30% Project planning, art direction and project management
- 10% Administrative duties including, but not limited to, photographer relations, reviewing photo submissions, processing photo payments, updating file templates, maintaining the NOLS graphic standards resources, and working to increase the sustainability of print projects.
