JOB TITLE: NOLS Rocky Mountain River Base Assistant Manager

REPORTS TO: NOLS Rocky Mountain River Base Manager

JOB OBJECTIVE:  Assists in overseeing courses and staff with a focus on operations at the NOLS Rocky Mountain River Base in Vernal, Utah.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Must be able to communicate well, both orally and in writing. This position requires a creative, flexible, solution-oriented attitude. NOLS whitewater instructor with logistical planning experience and knowledge of the river base's operating areas is desirable. A current CDL or the ability to obtain one is preferred.

LEADERSHIP OR SUPERVISORY DUTIES: Supervises all river base staff and daily operations during river base manager absence. Helps set positive tone and build cultural norms for daily staff interactions. Point person for operational planning (transportation, outfitting, facilities, and rations).

FUNDS AND/OR PROPERTY: Signatory on the river base checking account. Maintains a NOLS credit card. Coordinates budget expenditures associated with transportation, outfitting, facilities and rations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  •  60% - Coordinates all operations work (transportation, outfitting, facilities, and rations).
  •  20% - Assists with the coordination and execution of field evacuations. Leads sustainability efforts. Provides back-up bus driving support. Assists with financial tasks - such as compiling requisitions and paying monthly bills. Maintains excellent relationships with Lander-based staff. Provides support for information technology equipment.
  •  10% - Share in building and executing long-range planning and vision.
  • 10% - Other projects as assigned by the NOLS Rocky Mountain river base manager. Includes NOLS field work, if qualified.
