JOB TITLE: Programmer

REPORTS TO: Director of Information Services

JOB OBJECTIVE: To maintain and create high quality software applications to support NOLS customers and employees.

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or MIS is preferred, or minimum 3 years experience, or equivalent education and experience. The job requires full software lifecycle activities including analysis, design, development unit testing, documentation and release of code. Strong programming skills in at least two of the following areas: Python, JavaScript, SQL, Unix shell scripting or HTML/CSS. All work is done in Unix environment (Max OS X and RedHat). Experience with Django, Oracle, jQuery, SmartClient or Ext JS is a major plus.

LEADERSHIP OR SUPERVISORY DUTIES: Leadership in this position will primarily be self-leadership.

FUNDS AND/OR PROPERTY: Will participate in the decisions to purchase software development related assets.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Work with project stakeholders to develop requirements for software changes and new development work. Create accurate estimates of required effort for proposed software changes and development. Deliver quality software products on schedule, using Scrum or other agile development techniques. Participate in establishing software version control and documentation standards, and adhere to all such standards. Make recommendations for appropriate technology to support efficient and effective software development and version control. Work closely with other members of the information systems team to ensure appropriate development of software applications that execute efficiently within the existing and planned IS infrastructure.
