JOB TITLE: NOLS Pacific Northwest Summer Kitchen Supervisor

REPORTS TO: NOLS Pacific Northwest Operations Manager

JOB OBJECTIVE: Directly responsible for menu planning, food ordering, and preparation of meals for course students and staff. Maintain a high standard of sanitation in the kitchen area. Provide logistical support to NOLS Pacific Northwest as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Hard working, committed person with an understanding of NOLS course needs. Prior cooking experience is preferred; desire to learn about healthy cooking and food is paramount. Able to work safely and efficiently without direct supervision. A willingness to work flexible and irregular hours. An ability to live and work in a small community. Must be at least 21 years old and have a good driving record in order to obtain NOLS driving endorsement.

LEADERSHIP OR SUPERVISORY DUTIES: Self-supervision; supervise students and in-town and field staff with meal preparation and clean-up duties.

FUNDS AND/OR PROPERTY: Work directly with the operations manager to develop and maintain a kitchen budget. Attention to proper care, cleaning, and maintenance of the kitchen facility.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, order, and prepare meals for students and staff on issue and de-issue days
  • Plan, order, and prepare road meals for courses while en route to their field location or during re-supplies
  • Maintain a sanitary and organized kitchen facility, thoroughly cleaning all dishes, surfaces, appliances, fixtures, and floors as needed
  • Maintain communication with fellow employees, students, instructors, and supervisors
  • Supervise individual volunteers in light kitchen prep and clean up duties
  • Process all paper work as it relates to receipts, requisitions, invoices and purchase orders
  • Perform transportation tasks such as re-supplies, roadhead drop-offs and pickups of students and instructors

CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK: A criminal background check is required for all NOLS employees.
