JOB TITLE: NOLS Patagonia Assistant Director
REPORTS TO: NOLS Patagonia Director
JOB OBJECTIVE: The NOLS Patagonia assistant director will serve with the NOLS Patagonia director to provide administrative oversight and team supervision that ensures excellent course outcomes for every student and high-functioning teams at all levels in accordance with the NOLS mission, NOLS Patagonia vision, and school-wide strategic goals. NOLS Patagonia director will work with assistant director to define other tasks and areas of responsibility to leverage incoming experience and build broad-based competence for administrative leadership at NOLS. NOLS Patagonia assistant director will also function as representative of the school with both NOLS staff and Chilean educational, governmental, and financial agencies.
QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of the NOLS mission, curriculum, and operations is vital. Excellent oral and written communication skills in Spanish and English are necessary. This position requires a creative, energetic person with strong organizational, supervision and team facilitation skills. Experience with operations supervision and experience working with budgets and expense tracking is preferred. The position demands self-motivation and adaptability, along with a willingness to maintain a flexible schedule, working weekends or holidays when necessary to support school operations or evacuations.
LEADERSHIP/ SUPERVISORY DUTIES: NOLS Patagonia assistant director directly supervises operations department heads in logistics, equipment and rations. The assistant director will oversee the functions of NOLS Patagonia operational support staff. The assistant director will be primarily responsible for tracking land ownership and permit maintenance in NOLS Patagonia's operating area.
NOLS Patagonia assistant director will serve as acting director during director's absence.
FUNDS AND/OR PROPERTY: Responsible for assisting director to build budgets and track expenses in departments under his or her supervision which include rations, outfitting, private services, and kitchen which total ~$430,000 USD in expenses and ~$165,000 USD in revenues. Will have signature authority on all banking and petty cash accounts.
70% - Provide leadership and direct supervision in areas of assigned oversight at NOLS Patagonia, including scheduling, planning, support, and implementation.
20% - Duties under areas of responsibility as assigned by director.
10% - Assist director with overall supervision of NOLS Patagonia including program vision and strategies for growth.
CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK:
A criminal background check is required from all NOLS employees.
WORK LOCATION: The NOLS facility (Campo Las Vertientes) is a 437-acre property located eleven kilometers outside of Coyhaique, Chile.
