In 1990, after nearly a dozen years working in college admissions, Palmer was able to combine his passion for education with his enthusiasm for outdoor activities by joining NOLS.
During his tenure, NOLS has grown from 2,500 students to nearly 18,000. With graduates worldwide, the NOLS brand is one of the most respected in the outdoor industry.
With 80 percent of NOLS students under the age of 25, Palmer has had the opportunity to develop an innovative marketing mix—catalog, web, social networking, and word of mouth marketing, research, media relations, partnerships, book publishing—that speaks to youth as well as their parents.
Active in the community, Palmer serves on several boards including the Fremont County School District 1 Board of Trustees and the Lander Valley Education Foundation. In 2012, he was the Democratic Party candidate for the Wyoming House of Representatives and is the chair of the Fremont County Democratic Party.
Palmer is a three-time NOLS grad—Alaska Mountaineering, and two Winter Ski courses—and a NOLS parent.
