Robert W. Nimmo
Elected to the NOLS Board: June 2007
NOLS Graduate: 1992 - 25 and Over Alaska Sea Kayaking; 2005 - Patagonia Backpacking and Flyfishing
Rob is a two-time NOLS graduate having completed a sea kayaking course in Alaska and a backpacking course in Patagonia. Whilst living in New York City in the 1990s after his Alaska course Rob was an early leader of the NOLS NY chapter.
Rob, born an Australian, spent over 35 years as an international banker working with Citigroup, Westpac, First Union and Barclays, serving as Chief Risk Officer in the last three of these organisations.
Since retiring Rob has been active as a private investor and as a consultant promoting best practice financial risk management and co-authoring the second edition of Credit Risk Management published in 2008 by John Wiley and Sons.
As a keen rugby player who represented Stanford and Hong Kong in the 1960s and 1970s, Rob continues to support rugby in the US, serving on the Audit and Risk Committee of USARugby.
Rob is a member of the Advisory Council of the Michelle R Clayman Institute for Gender Research at Stanford University.
He is also active in supporting excellence and opportunity in secondary education (through the I Have a Dream Foundation of Oregon) and supporting patients’ rights at end of life (through Compassion and Choices of Oregon).
Rob was elected to the Board in June 2007 after previously serving on the NOLS Advisory Council.
Rob and his wife reside in Portland Oregon.
